Grafton, Wisconsin

They call Grafton the Heart of Ozaukee County and one of the oldest communities that make up Ozaukee County.Grafton was incorporated as a Village in 1896, with its roots dating back to the late 1830's and early 1840's.In 1916, the Wisconsin Chair Factory, located in neighboring Port Washington and a manufacturer of furniture, decided that they would get into the record business thinking that the record business would be a nice addition to their product line that consisted of phonograph cabinets.This created the introduction of Paramount Records a famous record label that processed their first record in 1917 under the trademarked name United Phonographs Corporation.Their first recording business was located in Sheboygan before becoming a part of the New York Recording Laboratories or NYRL.There was a rich history of many Blues artist that were a part of the Paramount record label.The record label and its heritage also had its roots in neighboring Port Washington.Toward the end of 1929, the New York Recording Laboratories (NYRL) opened a recording studio in Grafton producing some 1600 recordings.The studio operated for about two and a half years in Grafton before ceasing operations in 1932.Today, Grafton has also grown into the region's biggest shopping destination when it comes to the many different kind of stores with a lot of Big Box stores that has forever changed the landscape of Highway 60 and the I-43 corridor.While Grafton is a progressive community with a historical past, Grafton has become what one might consider mainstream when it comes to everyday shopping in Ozaukee County.In addition, Aurora Medical Center constructed a hospital in Grafton which opened in 2010 off of Highway 60 and Port Washington Rd.

Its property taxes are supported heavily by industry and a lot of new retail space which a lot of shoppers find to be convenient.Picturesque home sites can have views of the bluffs of Lake Michigan or the Milwaukee River which you'll find in the heart of downtown Grafton.
